Elite Athletes Call on Iranian Authorities to Stop Death Sentence of Champion Boxer
More than two dozen Olympic medal winners, trainers and further world-class competitors have put their names to a statement demanding a stop to the execution of a boxing titleholder and coach, who is facing execution in Iran.

The letter noted that the athlete's circumstances was not an isolated one and underscored Iran’s history of executing sports champions for their convictions, such as Habib Khabiri, skipper of the national football team, and a volleyball captain, captain of the female volleyball side.
